With 25 years of experience in Karate, BJJ, MMA, and Boxing, Tate is the owner and head coach of Ettingshausens Martial Arts, bringing passion, energy, and expertise to every class. Having trained and competed extensively, he understands what it takes to develop skill, discipline, and confidence in martial arts.
As both an instructor and business owner, Tate is dedicated to creating a strong, supportive training environment for students of all ages and levels. From beginners taking their first steps onto the mats to advanced athletes refining their techniques, he focuses on technical skill, fitness, and mindset, helping students improve both physically and mentally.
Tate’s coaching style is dynamic, supportive, and driven by a love for the sport. Whether it’s sharpening striking in MMA and Boxing, working ground control in BJJ, or refining techniques in Karate, he’s committed to bringing out the best in every student.
Michael Ettingshausen is the founder and head instructor of Ettingshausens Martial Arts, with decades of experience in Karate and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). He holds a 5th Dan Black Belt in Karate and a Black Belt in BJJ, bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his students.
Michael has built Ettingshausens into a respected training center, known for its focus on discipline, respect, and hard work. Over the years, he has mentored countless students, helping them grow both in skill and confidence.
Born in Japan and now a dedicated karate instructor, Sensei Asuka (Asuka Townsend) has been training in karate since 2008 after transitioning from a career as a high-performance swimmer. Now celebrating 15 years in the art, she holds a Shodan (Black Belt) and is passionate about helping students develop their skills and confidence.
With a strong background in competition and coaching, Sensei Asuka has earned: ✔ Australian Karate Federation Coaching Accreditation
✔ NSW State Referee License
✔ Australian Sports Commission Community Sports Coach Certification
One of her proudest achievements in competition is placing 2nd in Senior Women’s Kata at the Australian Open. She is also a current national federation committee member, contributing to the growth of karate in Australia.
Outside the dojo, Asuka enjoys hiking, swimming, and exploring the history and culture of karate. She has also worked as a coach at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, helping visually impaired swimmers perform at their best.
With her warm and approachable teaching style, Sensei Asuka is passionate about guiding students to grow, both in karate and in life.
